A brief biographical-ish blurb about hungrykatie
HEY!!! You’re reading my hungrykatie blog and I couldn’t be happier to have you here.
You may know me as happykatie, as that is typically what I go by online… but us happy gals get plenty hungry too and that’s where this blog was born.
I was blessed to have grown up in a house with a fantastic cook (hi Mom!) that loved to have gobs of dinner guests and was in a constant state of ‘bringing over dinner’ to lucky recipients. While I don’t profess to be the cook that she is, I certainly learned to love great food – which was only spurred by living overseas and traveling the world.
These days, I have my own little punk rock family to tend to and boy howdy do we like to eat.
I keep a mostly vegan and veggie kitchen at home (as my other half is vegan and we’re raising our daughter vegetarian), but I myself am an omnivore when we’re out and about. We like to experiment with all sorts of cooking styles – with a special affinity for raw (un)cooking, uber-spicy food and a super soft spot for New Mexican, TexMex and Indian food.
Other random hungrykatie tidbits
- I have a cookbook obsession and read them like novels, cherish them like friends and rarely loan them out (sorry dudes)
- I am absolutely and passionately in love with cupcakes – not like all those other freaks who jumped on the bandwagon in the last couple of years — we’re talking decades people
- Favorite foods: marzipan, cheese (raclette, gouda and uber-sharp cheddar top the list), pizza, anything with black truffles, TexMex and obnoxiously good salads (I hate iceberg “lettuce”)
- Tito’s Vodka is my alcoholic beverage of choice (soda and extra lime, thank you very much)
- I hate bad tippers
- My sushi love goes in weird spurts where I will eat sushi daily for 10 – 15 days straight, I’m ALWAYS down to try a new sushi place
- My dream vacation would be to travel the world for nothing but its culinary offerings (I did this recently in New Orleans with some food Bloggers courtesy of Harrah’s NOLA – best time of my life)

- The Overtime Show – I am the co-host of this weekly podcast that gives a (sometime irreverent and fresh) look at the business world and how small business owners can survive and thrive in it. I’m the one that laughs a lot – you won’t have any problem identifying me, I guarantee you.
- BusinessMaker’s Radio Show – I have a regular ‘Advantage Point’ radio segment on marketing, PR and Web tips for small businesses and also do the occasional interview (email me if you’d like to be featured!
- Houston NetSquared – a local chapter of an international nonprofit technology organization I co-founded and help to run (along with Ed Schipul).
